About Me
I graduated from UW-Whitewater with a BBA in 2014, and have been building experience as an IT engineer and consultant since.
In the past half decade I have occupied various customer facing, field network engineer roles for small to medium size business clients; including manufacturing, professional services and financial institutions. In 2023 I transitioned to independent consulting and began working with local business clients and nationwide collaboration partners.
Experience
Banking
For a banking client with branches across southern Wisconsin, I served as field engineer performing physical installation, testing, troubleshooting, and assistant project management. 9 locations required replacement of aging Fortinet firewall, switching and wireless infrastructure with Cisco SD Wan to support VPN connectivity between locations and a virtual private cloud environment. The project scope included relocating on-premise server infrastructure the virtual cloud, which called for network protocols like DHCP, DNS, and SMTP to be migrated from each site to the virtual cloud using windows services. Fiserv banking applications have strict security and environment specific configuration requirements. Routine vendor updates often call for configuration troubleshooting and verification using custom windows services and powershell scripting.
Manufacturing
New clients receive a thorough system assessment and proposal document that includes a project plan to redesign the network with best practice for ease of ongoing monitoring and maintenance. I served as technical lead to replace antiquated HP routing and switching with Cisco Meraki switch stacks and redundant firewalls. Increased CAD modeling performance and high availability requirements lead us to replace the aging HP compute host (running ESXi 6) and storage SAN with a 3 node Nutanix cluster running Acropolis hypervisor. Nutanix tools were used to migrate VMDK virtual machines to Nutanix with 90% success. Errors with the SQL server instance called for a fresh install of Windows Server 2019 in AHV, and a database migration.
Healthcare
I partnered with the owner of a local managed service provider to move and upgrade the technology for a dentist office to their new location. We took the opportunity to upgrade all of their windows workstations and create a Ubiquity network that supported half a dozen surveillance cameras and local video storage. Office 365 was used for email, but was not connected with the on premise domain. We introduced Azure AD sync to connect these environments and ADSI was used to resolve UPN identity duplicates in each user’s attributes. We introduced Group policies and Microsoft Intune MDM policies to apply user account and device security measures to achieve HIPPA compliance.
End User Support
Over the years I have responded to countless requests for hardware and software troubleshooting by end users, from administrative staff to company owner’s and presidents. You see something new every day.
